I’ve been so busy with the trip up, work related issues and just dealing with the changes in the case that I haven’t written that much. I don’t like being gone from the blog.
I’ve been restricted in what I could share about the case, but now I’m so relieved I can share more. When I was in Portland the D.A. contacted me thru the Victims Advocate, there was urgent news about the case! I had to wait till Monday when we could have a conference call, but I waited on pins and needles not understanding what could be happening? I thought there may be pleas?
I learned that the defendants and other witnesses were questioned more by the D.A., and the video tape cleaned up by a forensic specialist and they found out that the incident was not the horrific thing originally described by the newspapers, etc. I thought it was horrific too when I heard the testimony at the Bail Hearing in Dec. But there was more to the incident than was evident at first.
I’m not going into anything else now about the incident, it’s still very painful for me to discuss, and couple things still pending … but the defendants plead guilty, and the whole matter is winding down now. Both boys entered pleas months earlier than the D.A. expected but I can’t tell you the peace I’m feeling, the release of emotion, mental stress just knowing that things have just about ended.
The ‘killing for sport’ theme that seemed to haunt some of us is not what happened. It just goes to show how a few words from some who are very mixed-up can set off the mood for the entire case from the start. Whacky confessions, etc do not tell the whole truth either. This has been a weird case from the beginning, it seems, but all the legal teams, detectives have just been the most awesome group of people to work with. God sure answers prayers!
In all this, there’s still the sadness of having Marc gone! I’m not going to let his memory, legacy fade from my life!
(More soon.)
