Marc and I listened to world news thru the week, to get a balanced view of what’s going on. When you have someone who understands the need to keep aware of ALL news, it softens the harshness of all the pain going on in the world. It gives you hope when you can share with someone some serious problems going on. There’s a private bond you have in the fight to find truth & developing strategies to stand against evil. Keeping informed is vital!
It’s not that Marc and I ‘believed’ every word said, as there’s some hype & prejudice towards the West or America, alot of cowards out there too …. but you can learn to read between the lines of bias. Pictures don’t lie so easily, nor do body language or faces, but some cameramen emphasize some things and censor others.
You can get a good idea of what’s going on also by watching how leaders treat this or that issue. If a leader acts too blase towards terrorism, or another leader doesn’t do much to inform citizens re: a virus spreading wildly…. you get an idea of the awareness, or importance a particular government has towards the quality of life in their country. You can read the good signs or red flags.
It’s really bugging me all this rhetoric on the Syrian refugee crisis. Of course, it’s terribly painful watching the war Syria is waging against it’s own, & knowing there are other players egging on both sides! I can’t imagine what’s in peoples hearts or lives that make them risk everything to cross deserts, a channel of water just to get to Europe? Mostly I’ve read of the larger majority of hundreds of thousands of refugees escaping to camps inside or adjoining Syria or Iraq.
Jordan is being stretched to the limit in their caring for refugees. They let in the weak, women & children, and then check and vet the men King Hussein told a reporter the other day. They’re begging for more countries to come forward to help carry the load. Turkey is busting at the seams with refugees and war on its borders. I think we’re all waiting for leaders to say something or ACT on this matter! Bout a month ago our California Governor Brown said he might rescind his invitation to refugees unless the Federal govt. gave him computer data on the criminal records of everyone coming here! Good for him!
To me it’s not an issue of rushing to help a small group of destitute people, more than it is important to do our optimum to help the millions in larger camps over there! It does no good to act one way with a small group of immigrants, who of course have terrorists amongst them, and then tell a larger group to go thru the legal channels. We can’t be two-faced. When we read many blurbs of Facebook, the few photos or comments on daily TV, it shouldn’t make us feel we are all of a sudden experts on the subject, and we should bend to hysterical public sentiment. Many are waiting in line like good citizens should, we need to actually ‘do’ something for them and not feel so conflicted.
I’m really keen on preserving America’s security …. but even more so I’m in favor of keeping our integrity. I tithe monthly to a ministry that goes into those immigrant camps and brings material, emotional and spiritual solace and hope. Some ministries actually live with the people, they don’t just cart in things and leave. That’s important, the personal touch makes a lasting impact.
People many times use ‘blurbs’ as their basis for all fact on a subject or rely on a remark of hearsay or what their family says as the reason for their views. Their words don’t mean much, you forget them once you read. I know we want to help others in pain but we can’t save the world by being panicked & talking about it to our list. We need to stop and make a decision to carry out a plan to help!
I need to be honest with people in critical times. I needed to do the same for the lesser defendant as I’ve done for the main guy in Marc’s murder case. I need to be honest with my values, like Marc is still here or watching from above. I still want to be a good mom and see my values count in the lives of people! I’m glad I didn’t rely on the news sources to assess Wesley, but found out the real truth.
I continue to listen to all kinds of news from around the world, and sorta pretend Marc is with me. And I take concrete steps to help those in need ~
