I should state at the beginning of this blog that I will honor Marc by sharing things about his life and character. But I also will use this site to track his case to a degree, trying to be careful cause the defendants haven’t yet been convicted. So, I’m titling this blog Marc’s Justice just to be clear that I’m vigilant and doing my best for my son.
When you value someone so deeply you can’t just stand by and not do something! If Marc was in a gang, had a record, or was a person who preyed on others … or was any kind of sex deviant, drug addict or hung around with violent people, a parent could understand how this could have happened … and let the justice system have it’s way. But Marc valued people and the life God gave him. He was a pretty normal guy, excited about starting a new job, doing what he loved in the culinary world. He’d just finished some real estate seminars and was looking forward to his future!
Anyway, our prayers were answered soon after the incident, as the murderers were caught! I want to see them held responsible for Marc’s senseless murder, I can’t let my son’s death be cheapened by ‘a slap on the wrist’ type justice. They should ‘feel’ the deprivation of freedom (life), like they took from Marc. But also, as a Christian, I want to extend to them the hand of mercy, which they didn’t give to Marc …. I want them to know that while I’m so angry and deeply anguished about what they did to my son, I don’t hate them. I’m compelled to demonstrate God’s view about this serious crime!
They took someone’s life, and no one can pay us money to make up for our loss. Marc can’t come back now. The defendants will be able to marry and have children, even in jail, but Marc never will. They have brought a nightmare of sorts to Marc’s dad, brother and I …. forcing upon us a life of anguish every day of our lives. I’m praying they will show remorse, that would help ease the pain.
I hope they don’t become suicidal in prison, Marc wouldn’t have wanted them to be mistreated either. But he’d want them to pay a good price, not just for him but for society’s sake too, as people are always concerned about the safety of their city. Marc cared about this world and our lack of justice in many levels. So, this far, his wishes are being heard!
